What to wear in the Emergency Room

The emergency room is the so called tension-ridden area of the hospital. Most of the time, the patients arrive in this area are wounded or accidentally injured so dark colored scrub tops and pants are the most ideal nursing uniforms. Dark colored scrubs are the best pick because blood stains are not easily seen. But aside from wounded patients, sick and near dying patients will arrive in the emergency room too. Thus, stay away from colors that relates to death or misery such as black and grey. It will be disrespectful for the friends and families of the patients if you are wearing all black or grey scrubs. Uniforms with cheerful prints, just like cartoon scrubs, are also not a good choice.

What to wear in the Pediatric Room

Working in the pediatric room means your patients are children. Not all children are so comfortable staying in the hospital or seeing healthcare professionals. So to ease their fear, it is better to choose bright colored nursing uniforms or those that come with bold and cheerful prints such as cartoon scrubs. Almost all children are avid fan of cartoon characters. So instead of focusing on the pain or medical procedures, the attention of your kids patients will be diverted on cool and enchanting print designs of your scrubs.

What to wear in the Palliative Care Room

Patients in the palliative care room are suffering from serious illness. These patients as well as their families have almost lost their strength to carry on with daily life. As a nurse, your main goal is to help improve the quality of life for both the patient and the family. The color and pattern of your nursing uniforms can have a significant impact towards improving their daily life. Scrubs with jolly prints or colors that portray happiness, hope, strength, warmth, energy, calmness, or to be optismitic are the best pick. Among your color choices are yellow, green, blue, red, orange, and the likes. Although black can symbolize strength and authority, it could also mean evil, misery and even death so you better exclude this in your list. Meanwhile for printed scrubs, you can choose those with bold cartoon characters, flowers, fish, and other engaging or hopeful prints.

What to wear in the Operating Room

If you are assigned in the operating room, it is not a good idea to wear that all white nursing uniform. Remember that operations and surgeries are done inside the operating room. This simply means that you are vulnerable to blood stains. Aside from that, operating room always needs to be well-lighted. So as a nurse assigned in the operating room, it is not a good idea to wear that all white nursing uniform. With white nursing uniforms, blood splashes are very conspicuous and such color when combined with bright lights and white environment increases eye strain. Wearing dark colored scrub tops and scrub pants especially in green, purple, burgundy, navy, or red hues are much better in operating room. If you want a little variation, you can also pair your solid color scrub pants with dark printed scrub tops.
