Headaches and minor ailments are something common in our lives that we experience due to lack of sleep, skipping meals and dehydration. And these often get healed within few hours of time by taking a relaxation break or a cup of tea. However, certain medical conditions significantly affect our mood, day and work performance that may take days or weeks to get alleviated. Sinusitis is one of those common medical conditions which is an inflammation and congestion of the sinuses that is collectively known as a sinus infection or rhinosinusitis. It is often caused by a viral infection and usually improves within two or three weeks. Most of us have experienced sinus pressure and pain at some point in our lives, and most get recovery without taking any prescribed medication. However, there are many natural remedies to heal a sinus infection, often with items and ingredients already available in your home. Some of those are as follows:
Dehydration could be one of the reasons behind your sinusitis. Therefore, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Moreover, green tea and non-sugar-added juices are good fluids, helping you thin out mucus and drain it from irritated sinuses. However, stay away from alcohol, sugary beverages, caffeine, and smoking. Since these tend to dehydrate your system and clog already inflamed airways with thick mucus.
Spicy food items such as hot peppers, horseradish, mustard, curry, and wasabi may help dissolve excess mucus and clear sinuses. If you love spice, you can mix up cayenne pepper or horseradish with lemon juice or cider vinegar to open your nasal passages.
Allergies can worsen your sinus pain. A study by American Academy of Otolaryngology calls for controlling your home environment and personal surroundings by getting relieved from dust mites, applying bedding with allergen-barriers, installing an air filter system, and keeping any pets out of your bedroom to help you curb nasal allergies.
Warm compresses can help keep your nasal tissues moist. Alternatively, fill a large bowl with steaming water and hover your face over the pot using a towel around your head with closed eyes ensuring maximum safety, and then breathe the steam in. Be careful not to harm or burn yourself. Following up warm compresses with a cold compress may also help alleviate sinus pain.
Giving your face a mild and gentle massage can help offer temporary relief to your closed nasal passages.
Neti pot is a little, yet incredible device to easily irritate your nasal cavity and eliminate all unwanted mucus and contaminants. If you are prone to the sinus infection, use the device twice a day for maximum relief.
Turmeric root is an excellent, fragrant spice commonly used in dishes. It is an anti-oxidant ingredient with natural anti-inflammatory curcumin. Hot tea made of turmeric with spicy ginger root can help amazingly loosen mucus from clogged nasal passages, relieve sinus pressure, and allow you feel better. Moreover, ginger root offers calming effect to an upset stomach.
Vitamin C, in the form of a capsule, liquid or other forms, is an effective immune booster. Studies suggest that Vitamin C helps the body improve your overall health by resisting immune system deficiencies. Tea made of black peppers would be an excellent choice since the ingredient is loaded with Vitamin C, helping fight free radical damage, colds, and flu.
Upon application of above mentioned tips, it is hoped that you would experience relief and improved health.
