The Weirdest Uniforms

Have you ran on someone who simply hypnotized you with their looks? Except gorgeous men and women dressed in their best wardrobes, totally weird-looking clothes will keep your eyes busy for at least two minutes, while thinking how in the world would someone wear a hideous outfit. You should wonder more if you see or actually need to wear the weirdest uniform ever.

In the start of 2010, one uniform got considerably unflattering comments – Air New Zealand’s proposed staff uniform. A vibrant pink and black Lilly Pulitzer-esque uniform is set to debut in 2011, making one upset employee say “flight attendants look like drag queens.” In fairness to Trelise Cooper, the designer, her work is an art but not a very good choice for an airline uniform. It’s kinda weird.

Let’s skip the fashion designers and go straight to the birthplace of uniforms, school uniforms in particular, the Great Britain. Bringing us back to Tudor times is the traditional bluecoat uniform of schoolboys at Christ’s Hospital School in Sussex. It’s more of a costume than a uniform, though, with all the ankle-length coat, neckbands, knee breeches, and yellow stockings. Good thing this kind of clothing exists only in Britain. If American boys would be required to wear this uniform on a daily basis, the U.S. might not produce a single graduate.

Now, the weird headdress of the Scottish military goes as far off as Rome. The Roman Empire has always been depicted with the colorful headgear down to our day. We can see that in the Vatican Swiss Guards. Contrary to the masculine uniform of the Roman army though, the guards’ uniform looks more like a clown’s costume. The balloon-type design in striking yellow-blue-orange colors will confuse kids, but it might keep them close to god.

How can we miss uniforms in one of the most famous world, sports? Remember Nat Holman in his jersey? Probably, not anymore as he played for Celtics basketball team way back in 1922. The petite-looking jersey was all too common that time, and we salute the old school designs, they’re the benchmarks. Nonetheless, there’s something weird about Mr. Holman’s original Celtics uniform, the thigh-high socks rolled like sausages just above the knees and the loose stuff at the knee portion. It looks like they’re tucked between the sausages and the stripes socks. Well, maybe that’s the secret behind his successful basketball career.

Going past sports and into the Celtic heritage, we’ll find the military kilt uniforms. For other cultures, the traditional Scottish clothing is a totally weird thing. In spite of that, this Scottish national dress has gained respect from among different peoples for its artistry is a legendary fashion and a substantial part of history. It’s still amusing how the weird sporran and headdress make the entire uniform absolutely impressive.

The weirdest of all are the nursing uniforms and lab coats used by the waitresses and waiters in a totally weird restaurant in Latvia named Hospitalis. The doctors who owned the restaurant played with a hospital theme that can make some throw and others excited. This place will give you a bizarre experience of being served with food in flasks and dishes in the operating room. Those medical uniforms were really not weird but the restaurant’s them made them look so.
